Dear 8th grade band parents and students,
My name is Matthew Brusseau and I am the Director of Bands at Davie County High School. I want to extend a welcome to each of you to the band program at Davie County High School.
As you are planning your high school curriculum, I hope that your conversations include discussions about continuing in music education through band. The 8th grade band students have grown so much since their first performances as sixth graders and they will contribute greatly to the Davie County Band Program.
Please email brusseaum@davie.k12.nc.us to be added to our Future Members email list.
The band classes that freshmen should sign up for are as follows:
Honors Level Credit IS available for these courses.
Students enrolled in the Concert Band will study intermediate music and instrumental performance techniques. Classroom activities also include listening to music, music theory and instrument study. It is expected that students will spend an appropriate amount of time practicing their instrument at home. Members of the Concert Band are required to participate in two evening performances per semester. (All conflicts, including athletic participation, are dealt with on a case-by-case basis and should not prevent a student from also participating in band.) Students enrolled in the Concert Band will also perform at the Northwest District Music Performance Adjudication. All ninth-graders who take band are required to enroll in both semesters of this course. Some students may be invited to audition for an advanced ensemble. This will be initiated by the director.
The Davie County High School Band Program educates young people through music performance. Students in the DCHS Band Program learn confidence, teamwork, coordination, and leadership, just to name a few. We have three curricular ensembles (Concert Band, Symphonic Band, and Wind Ensemble). Our Marching Band performs at all home and away football games and local parades. We also have Small Ensembles (Chamber Music) and two Jazz Bands. Marching Band and the Jazz Bands meet primarily after school. There are times that we will meet during FLEX time.
